Not all athletes at BYU compete in intercollegiate sports for the Cougars. I
learned that last night at the Utah Golden Gloves Boxing State Finals. One of
the competitors was Brandon Packard, a 22-year-old BYU junior from Houston,
Texas. Packard recently won the USA Boxing state championship at 141 pounds,
but fell a bit short on Saturday night in the Golden Gloves title fight.

My hands hurt when hitting the heavy bag with boxing gloves?

My hands hurt when i hit a heavy bag with boxing gloves. I don't use hand wrap, but I don't think that is the problem. When I use mma gloves, the pain that i felt with boxing gloves goes away, and since they give less protection, I don't think that protection is an issue. Maybe i'm clenching my fist wrong when wearing boxing gloves?

Your MMA gloves are tighter around your hands, therefor they act as a type of handwrap- keeping everything tight and compact, eventhough you should wear a handwrap with your mma gloves too by the way!
anyway, point is that in a boxing mit, your hands are free inside the mit moving around, and are therefor not as compact. you MUST wear handwrap when practicing with heavy bag or a punchmate. try it, you'll feel the difference!
